The Santa Fe Symposium

7/30/2017

Back in June, just after I moved, I blogged about sending a proposal to the Santa Fe Symposium about the Red Copper (I) Oxide Patina, and in that same blog, I wrote about how I bought a kiln to use for my experiments.

This week, I received an email from them telling me... MY PROPOSAL WAS ACCEPTED.
What will I present? The title is:  Myths, Legends,  and a  Process for Creating a Copper (I) Oxide Patina

I am now blocking out my time to not only run my experiments and take pictures, but to write the paper and assemble the PowerPoint presentation,  my author bio and travel reservations.

To that end, yesterday I began gathering my notes for the myths and legends part.  Today I putting together my schedule and designing the experiments in a new lab notebook.

For your enjoyment, here is picture, again, of a piece I made with the patina

In activity, relating to metals, continues here. I have been in Texas for 2 months now and it come to pass that the work on my studio is going to be delayed; the shop elf is still in California but the wee kitty now known as Cowboy Boots has relocated to Texas too.

The studio has been delayed due to finances. One of two a/c unit at the house in California died (just as we are getting ready to sell it). Then the a/c unit died in the rental property and there was quite a bit of water damage as a result.

I did go back to California for a week and I finished packing the raising stakes and the last few bits of the studio as well as the quilts on the walls and other things with the shop elf.

That is not to say I can't do metal work, here, but I can't set up to teach and with the majority of my shop/studio still in California I really can only start a few chasing & repousse projects; I can't really finish them. Oh, well.

In lieu of all of that, I am knitting. So here are some pictures for you to enjoy in the mean time
