Over the Winter break, I finally got around to sewing a quilt with fabric and a panel I had bought during the summer.
The fabric is based upon Gustav Klimt's friezes and paintings, the panel was inspired by Klimt's work and was of a cat. I did what's called a "quilter's stew" where you just make blocks and assemble them in groups which I did, around the panel; which was off center in the finished piece. I call what I did as a "casserole" to keep the alliteration going for the title which is Klimt Kat Kasserole. Then with the extra fabric I was going to piece together the backing. Well, there was sooo much fabric (because what quilter does not buy more than they need) I ended up with another quilt top. Then I used large amounts of yardage for the backings of both.
Recently, I used lot's of the scraps for 2 different class projects. For Studio 2 we had to do an Nature Intervention which is unexpected art out in the wild. I used the strips cut from the back of the quilts, after the quilting was done, to wrap and drape on the tree. I used the cut points from the blocks with triangles, at the base of the tree as if they had fallen out of the tree. I call it "Rare Fabric Moss (versus Spanish Moss)"
For Core 2 we had to do a color mood piece - using any medium use color to invoke a mood. I glued lots of the scraps, yes there was more, as a collage and placed some long strip on top, so they stuck out and above the glued down fabric. The mood is "Playful Chaos"
